Rivergreen Offers Helping Hand to Local Church

St. Luke’s Church in Pallion received a helping hand to repair the entrance of the church thanks to Rivergreen.

Rivergreen’s Managing Director, Peter Candler who was born and bred in the area with family connections to the church was happy to help out when he heard Vicar Reverend Mary Judson wanted to refurbish the entrance of the church.

Rivergreen seconded craftsmen from their current development on the former David Brown Engineering Works site at Pallion Industrial Estate to repair the entrance of the church.

Rivergreen decorated the entrance door, replaced the entrance gates and renewed the path down the side of the church with block paving which was specially designed incorporating a cross. The work carried out by Rivergreen has not only improved the look of the entrance to the church but also improved access for both wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Vicar, Reverend, Mary Judson said, “The people of St. Luke’s Church are thrilled with the quality of the work and equally thrilled that somebody like Peter wants to give something back to the community of Pallion which gave him his start in life.”

The church is used by the community for regular worship, baptisms, wedding and funerals as well as special services so many people will be able to enjoy the new entrance.

There will be a prayer of dedication and blessing for the new entrance during the morning service at 10a.m. on Easter Sunday.

Rivergreen will create 86,000 sq ft of offices and light industrial space on the former David Brown Engineering Works site at Pallion. The £5m scheme is receiving backing from the City of Sunderland, the Local Strategic Partnership for Tyne & Wear, One Northeast and the European Regional Development Fund, but the major share of the investment is being provided by Rivergreen whose main directors were born and bred in the area.
